“Violin Technique: The Manual helped me enter and complete two degrees from The Juilliard School and for performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic. When I first began studying with Drew as a child, The Manual did not exist in its current format – all the exercises were written out by hand and he would give them out as my technical development required. They were my violin “vitamins,” helping me to become a technically proficient violinist. Drew’s concept of Hand Groups was particularly influential in my understanding and mapping of the violin fingerboard. All of my students now employ these exercises, leading them to places like Juilliard and Harvard. Implementing and understanding the purpose of the exercises in The Manual will create a solid technical foundation and bring every violinist to a higher level of technical ability.”
